About This Expedition

The Kilimanjaro Summit Trek via the Machame Route — known as the “Whisky Route” — is widely considered the most scenic path to Africa's highest point. Over 9 days, you'll traverse five distinct ecological zones: rainforest, heathland, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit.

Our summit success rate on this route is 94% — significantly higher than the industry average of 66% — thanks to our extended acclimatization schedule and the expertise of our KINAPA-certified lead guides.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to your lodge in Moshi. Meet your guides and fellow trekkers over a traditional Tanzanian welcome dinner. Gear check and final briefing.

Reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise was the most profound moment of my life. The WildRoots team — especially guide James Mwangi — were extraordinary. Patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in every person summiting.

Meticulous planning, incredible food on the mountain, and guides who clearly love what they do. The acclimatization schedule was perfect — I summited without altitude issues.

An exceptional experience overall. The guides were wonderful and the logistics flawless. I would have liked slightly smaller group sizes but the team managed everyone brilliantly.
